The Royal Institute of British Architects has shortlisted Australian architecture gender equity organization Parlour for a President’s Award for Research.
Parlour is the only Australian organization to be selected, with the rest of the shortlisted nominees based in the UK. The organization’s Guides to Equitable Practice have been shortlisted for Outstanding University-located Research.
Parlour’s Guides to Equitable Practice provide information on topics such as pay equity, long-hours culture, career progression and recruitment that predominantly affect the careers of women in the profession. Research for the guides began in 2011 and they were officially launched in April 2015.
The guides were recently recognized in the Victorian Architecture Awards, winning the national Bates Smart Award for Architecture in the Media.
There are four categories in the President’s Awards, including Outstanding Master’s Degree Thesis, Outstanding PhD Thesis, Outstanding University-located Research and Outstanding Practice-located Research, and four nominees have been shortlisted for each. One of the four winners will be awarded a Research Medal.
The award celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2015, and a design competition is being held to create the first Research Medal. The prize money for the medal design is £2,000 (AUD$4,237).
The winners will be announced in October, and an awards ceremony will be held in December.
