2024 NSW Country Division Awards

A boutique Art Hotel inside a former council chambers building in the New South Wales Southern Highlands has taken out the highest accolade in the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Country Division Awards.

The Victorian era Moss Vale council building has been transformed into the eight-room Moss Manor by Luke Moloney Architecture with a new jet-black pavilion houses a sitting and dining space for guest.

The project received the Regional Division Medal as well as awards in the Commercial and Heritage categories.

“Externally the contrasting layers of history are seen literally in shades of black and white,” the jury said. “The plan of the Council building has been slightly reconfigured to accommodate eight guest suites with original interior features retained and or reinterpreted. Significant work was needed to meet building code requirements, this work has been completed seamlessly and beautifully.”

Elsewhere in the awards Dachshund House by Maxell and Page received the James Barnet Award and an award for Residential Architecture – House (New). ““Proving that architecture is affordable and can be for the everyday Australian, architects Maxwell and Page have designed a compact, robust and delightful home for a young family,” the jury said.
