The Australian Institute of Architects New South Wales chapter has announced the winners of the 2024 Newcastle Architecture Awards, which recognizes excellence in the Newcastle and Central Coast regions.
The Maitland Administration Centre, a new headquarters for Maitland City Council, has been awarded the highest honour, the Newcastle Medal. Design in collaboration between the council, BVN, PTW and EJE, the project impressed the jury with its “graceful simplicity” and its “respect for Maitland’s history and future.”
“The Maitland Administration Centre is a beacon of architectural prowess, redefining the city’s civic identity,” the jury said in their citation. “[It] is a masterful testament to the principles of architectural harmony, historical continuity, and functional excellence.”
Elsewhere in the awards, Curious Practice picked up a swag of accolades, including awards for Small Project Architecture, Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations and Additions) and Multiple Housing, as well as a commendation for Steel Architecture.
Winners of awards will progress to the 2024 NSW Architecture Awards.
