Solar-responsive thermochromic glass – Suntuitive

Suntuitive solar-responsive thermochromic (SRT) glass is a dynamic glass that is able to adjust the visible light transmission (VLT) and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) according to the intensity and position of the sun. It self-tints when the sun is at its hottest and highest in the sky, and returns to its minimally tinted state in the absence of direct sunlight.

The result is a dynamic glazing product that adapts according to the building's needs to ensure natural lighting and heat gain are optimized throughout the day and across the seasons. Even the best clear or tinted glazing products offer fixed performance, so there is always an inherent trade-off between thermal control and visibility.

Suntuitive's variable SHGC of 0.32 to 0.13 allows building temperatures to be naturally controlled with less reliance on HVAC systems, which positively impacts energy consumption and comfort. Suntuitive SRT doesn't require permanent shades or mechanical louvres to control heat and glare, offering design freedom to architects and designers, and thanks to a variable VLT of 50% to 11%, natural lighting is optimized at all times.

There are two versions of Suntuitive SRT: the double-glazed insulated glass unit (IGU), and the new dynamic laminate variant which can be supplied in a monolithic format.

  • No requirement for shades or louvres
  • Optimized natural light and heat gain throughout the year
  • Self-tinting technology
