An eight-storey office tower with an organic form and an open, landscaped ground plane will be built opposite the heritage Peters Ice Cream Factory building in Brisbane’s West End, under plans for council.
Known as the Greenhouse, the building has been designed by Blight Rayner to “epitomize the south-east Queensland relaxed lifestyle.”
The façade is proposed to be organic in shape, with alternately protruding and recessive sections defining the building’s form.
“[The façade] is sculpted to optimize views out into the proposed building and improve vistas out by way of a fluid, curved building shape and screening strategy,” the architects state in planning documents. “This approach ensures privacy for neighbouring buildings and surrounding uses while providing natural light penetration across the floorplate.”
The Greenhouse will be located at the centre of the burgeoning West Village precinct, and the proponent says that it will help activate the area with its commercial use and expansion of the public realm.

The design calls for multiple public terraces, intertwined within a subtropical landscape.
“A unified and unique landscape will take on an epiphytic and floating character that will blur boundaries between public, private and level change,” states landscape architect RPS Group.
An open ground level plaza fronting Mollison and Boundary streets will be activated with retail shop fronts, while a proposed upper landing level will provide entry to the office building.
A project of developer Sekisui House, the building will deliver 7,121 square metres of floor area including 610 square metres for retail and 56 car spaces.
