The Alastair Swayn Foundation has launched a second round of research grants for 2020.
Alastair Swayn was the inaugural government architect of the ACT and a director of Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn since 1979. He passed away in August 2016 and was posthumously appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2017.
The foundation will offer three types of grants for individuals, groups and organizations in the architecture and design industries.
The grants are intended to support research that enriches Australian design knowledge and culture.
A $2,000 research grant will be awarded to applicants whose research aligns with the foundation’s guiding principles of excellence, innovation, collaboration, progress and leadership.
A $5,000 strategic grant will be awarded to support innovation and research on critical challenges facing architecture and design in four priority topics: sustainability, bushfire resilient design, housing, and workplace design
Finally, $15,000 international research grant will be awarded annually on the anniversary of Swayn’s death. The grant will support overseas travel and learning opportunities for research that demonstrate the ability to share outcomes for the benefit of the broader Australian design community.
Round two applications close on 18 September. Successful applications will be notified by 31 October. Application details are available on the foundation’s website.
